Lake Preservation Fund

In 2020, the SLA Board of Directors (BoD), in support of its mission,  proudly established the Spofford Lake Preservation Fund  "for the purpose of funding the cost of remediation of plant, animal, algal and bacterial species which are deemed, by a majority of the board, as ‘invasive’ or potentially harmful.  Remediation shall be broadly defined to include but not limited to the investigation, discovery, testing, analysis, removal, inspection and on-going remediation of the above species at Spofford Lake and the surrounding watershed."

After an initial contribution of $50,000 in 2020,  largely from member donations, the BoD has made additional contributions each year.

Member donations to the Lake Preservation Fund are restricted to the above purpose.  Given this, contributions must be made separately from annual membership donations.

Withdrawals from the LPF for the above purpose can be made only with the recommendation of the SLA President or Treasurer and with the approval of two-thirds of the directors.

Keeping Spofford Lake free of invasive species, of any kind, is a primary focus of the Spofford Lake Association. Establishing and adding to the Lake Preservation Fund gives us the flexibility to act, in concert with DES and the Town of Chesterfield, when remediation action is required.  We are pleased and grateful that the Town which has created the 'Spofford Lake Control and Remediation of Invasive Species Expendable Trust Fund' and that the town's voters have contributed $20,000 the fund to date.

The Spofford Lake Association (SLA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.  As such your contribution to the Lake Preservation Fund  is tax-deductible.  Please consult your tax adviser as to your specific situation.
